The purpose of the organisation
The purpose of the organisation is defined in the Teosto regulations: “Teosto is a non-profit organisation, whose purpose is to supervise and administer all matters concerning musical and the related literary copyright in Finland and abroad, while promoting Finnish creative music and its general preconditions.”
The General Meeting, convening twice per year, holds supreme decision-making power at Teosto. Around 760 of Teosto’s over 33,000 music author and publisher members are also society's ordinary members.
Teosto’s member organisations include Finnish Music Creators FMC, the Society of Finnish Composers and the Finnish Music Publishers Association.
Teosto's activities are based on a non-profit strategy that we implement together with our member organisations. In line with our strategy, we take care of the interests of our creators and develop an environment in which music authors are able to work professionally and where authorship is valued.
Teosto's International Performance
Teosto is a small society and like other Nordic societies, effective and transparent. International rightholders’ rights are in good hands with us: Teosto has been able to increase its foreign distributions year-on-year.
Local Finnish market is small and Teosto collects its revenues from small streams. Teosto’s total distribution has been growing yearly. It is explained by good customer relations, negotiation skills and success in finding new collection sources.
