Teosto Open API updated – data from 2015 events now also available

15.11.2016

Open data to promote openness in the music industry

By opening the data it has collected, Teosto wishes to act as a pioneer and as an example of utilising open data in the music business and the copyright industry. The open interface to the Teosto database allows developers to enrich live music data and outline new, innovative usage opportunities for this data. The objective is that enriching live data in cooperation with developers will lead to new applications and services to benefit music authors, artists and consumers.

Some of the already implemented examples of enriching the live data of Teosto include http://arcticsounds.fi/, an online application where you can browse the locations and music profiles of different venues as well as the music styles and numbers of gigs of different artists, as well as the http://www.keikkahistoria.fi/ site where you can see where your favourite artist has performed.

Teosto live data involved in the EU Hackathon event in Brussels

Teosto joins the ranks of data suppliers in the EU Hackathon event to be organised for the sixth time in Brussels 15–16 November (http://2016.euhackathon.eu). This year, the theme of the Hackathon will be Visualising copyright evidence to inform the policy debate, and its goal is to combine data and academic research in order to produce clearer information with the help of visualisations to benefit the discourse on copyrights.

In addition to Teosto API and the live data of Teosto, a number of other European and American music industry organisations and operators will be providing data for the event. Developers from all over the world will take part in the event. The EU Hackathon will be hosted by MEPs Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (Finland), Kaja Kallas (Estonia), Anneleen Van Bossuyt (Belgium) and Therese Comodini Cachia (Malta) and it will be sponsored by Google, Facebook and Mozilla.

Slush Music to be organised for the first time – Teosto as main partner

This autumn, Slush, the leading business startup event in Europe, will introduce an entirely new conference called Slush Music, which combines music, technology and entrepreneurship. On 30 November, Slush Music will bring together 1,500 professionals at Cable Factory, Helsinki, to give a boost to the multi-billion-euro music technology sector. On Thursday, 1 December, Slush Music will integrate with the main event at Messukeskus.

Teosto will take part in two programmes at Slush Music. In The Fight for the Share of Ear, a talk to be given in cooperation with Nelonen Media, Johannes Saukko (Content Director, Nelonen Media radio channels) will discuss the role of on-demand services for tomorrow’s radio. Markus Kaarto (Head of Music Licensing) from Teosto will comment on the licensing of music content for online radio services.

In addition, Turo Pekari (Senior Advisor, Innovation and Discovery) from Teosto will attend Blockchain – Music and Next Steps, a discussion hosted by Allen Bargfrede on the new opportunities created for the music industry by blockchain technology.

Teosto is the main partner in Slush Music.
