11.12.2025

On 11 December 2025, Teosto distributed a total of EUR 21.9 million in royalties to composers, lyricists, arrangers and music publishers. Of this amount, EUR 11.4 million was paid to Teosto’s direct and domestic members. In total, over 8400 music creators and publishers received royalties in December.

Teosto collects royalties from public performances, broadcasting and reproduction of domestic and foreign music and distributes them to the rightholders of the music: composers, lyricists, arrangers and music publishers. The royalties paid in December were mainly collected for music used in concerts, radio, television, as background music, in online services and in Yle Areena and the Nelonen Ruutu+/Ruutu services and, for the first time, in the Finnish broadcasting company MTV’s Katsomo and Katsomo + services in April–June 2025.

The amount distributed to an individual music creator may range from a few euros to thousands of euros, depending on how many times their work has been performed and their share of the work. The median amount distributed to a single music creator was about EUR 98.

You can find more detailed information about the distribution categories included in this distribution and the times when the royalties were collected in the distribution calendar on our website.

The distribution increased by EUR 7.1 million

The distribution for December 2025 is EUR 7.1 million greater than last year’s December distribution (+48%).  The royalties from radio and television performances increased significantly, as performing right royalties were distributed for the first time for the Finnish broadcasting company MTV’s Katsomo and Katsomo+ services. The amount received from these services includes royalties from the past two and a half years.  Going forward, the royalties collected from the services will be distributed at the normal rate, i.e. four times a year.

The growth in the online services area is due to the transfer of the distribution of royalties collected from Netflix in 2024 from September to December as well as other amounts in the online category provisions, which were paid out faster than before. The reason for this is the termination of the cooperation between Teosto and the Nordic joint venture Polaris Hub at the end of 2025. We will switch to ICE Online Core licensing services at the beginning of 2026. Learn more about the change here.

The royalties collected from abroad are at the same level as a year ago, although the distribution of royalties collected from France in 2025 is delayed. The reason for the delay of the French royalties is a delay of the French tax authorities’ decision on the taxation of royalties.

The royalties to be distributed in December 2025 were collected for the following categories of rights:

You can find out more about Teosto’s distributions on the Distributions page. As a music creator, you can view your own distribution information in Teosto’s web service.

The total amount distributed by Teosto varies, depending on how comprehensively royalties can be collected in each music use category and how quickly the royalties can be allocated to the work to which they belong. The allocation of royalties requires work notifications submitted by music creators to Teosto for their own works, as well as notices of a performance or music use reports submitted by music performers and users.

Teosto’s next distribution date is 23 March 2025.

Missing information in the web service has been corrected

The update of December distribution data for online and streaming royalties (NMP) as well as physical recordings (NCB) in our web service was delayed by about a week due to technical issues. During the delay, the total amount of your distribution may have appeared incomplete in the web service.

The missing information have now been corrected. Please note that this did not affect the correct payment on December 11.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
