Information for Teosto’s International Partners

About Teosto

Teosto is a Finnish copyright collecting society representing composers, lyricists, arrangers, and music publishers. Established in 1928, Teosto has been dedicated to protecting the rights of music creators and ensuring they receive fair compensation for their work.

Teosto is a member of CISAC and has agreements with over 80 collecting societies worldwide. These reciprocal representation agreements cover only performing rights, while mechanical rights are administered by NCB.

Collections and licensing

Teosto collects royalties from all music use in Finland. This includes public performances, such as concerts and events, background music, radio, TV and online services. All distributions are based on full reporting from the licensees except for background music which is distributed based on a broad questionnaire to background music users.

While Teosto licenses AV online services itself, audio online services are licensed multiterritorially by Polaris Hub, a joint licensing hub of Teosto, Koda and Tono.

For more information on our licensing tariffs, please visit the licence section of our website.

Distribution Schedule

Teosto distributes royalties quarterly. The distribution to international rightsholders takes place soon after the distribution to Teosto members. The international distribution dates for 2025 are:

  • March 26, 2025
  • July 2, 2025
  • October 1, 2025
  • December 19, 2025

Please visit our payment calendar to find out which distribution areas and collection periods are included in each distribution.

Documentation

Teosto uses the ICE Cube database as its work database, which is also used by Koda, PRS, SABAM, STIM, and TONO. Additionally, CisNet is used for both works and cue sheets.

We kindly ask our international partners to keep their members’ IPI numbers, works, and cue sheets up to date in the relevant international databases to ensure efficient processing of royalties. For any documentation-related questions, please contact Teosto’s documentation team at work@teosto.fi.

UP Lists

An updated list of unidentified performances is published in connection with every distribution. The UP list is available in your society’s folder on Teosto’s FTP where distribution files can be found. A list of unidentified performances of AV productions is sent to you quarterly via email.
