Teosto and YouTube renew licensing deal for music

14.01.2016

YouTube and Teosto have renewed the agreement that enables rightsholders and affiliates represented by Teosto to monetize their music on YouTube in Finland.

The agreement will ensure that publishers, songwriters and composers are paid for the use of their work and can continue to reach new and existing fans on YouTube, while YouTube’s users will continue to enjoy their video content, when and how they want it.

Revenue is generated when advertisements are displayed against YouTube partner’s videos and the renewed agreement, which follows the one first signed in 2013, takes into account a possible future launch of YouTube Red in Finland.

“We are very pleased to announce a renewal of the agreement with YouTube and Teosto, and we are happy with the progress regarding our authors’ interests in the agreement. Together we have also been able to implement technical improvements to further facilitate reporting to our authors”, says Teosto´s CEO Katri Sipilä.

“We’re committed to ensuring that writers, composers and publishers get paid fairly, and that our users have the best experiences enjoying the video content that they love”, says Gudrun Schweppe, Head of Music Publishing at YouTube in EMEA. “This renewed deal with Teosto in Finland is an important step in delivering both of these priorities and is a big win for all the Finnish YouTube fans.”
