Agreements on the use of music in online services

Royalties paid by online platforms such as streaming services are collected and distributed via Teosto. The royalties you receive through are Performing right royalties from compositions, lyrics and arrangements. In addition to the royalties distributed via Teosto, online platforms also pay royalties related to related to the recording of music (so‑called “master rights”), which are paid to performers, for example through an aggregator or a record label. Teosto concludes agreements with online music services, collects the royalties and distributes them to the music authors and publishers who are our members. You can find more information about online royalties here.

As a Teosto member, you receive royalties from hundreds of online services

Negotiations with the major international music platforms are managed by an international partner company on behalf of Teosto. From the beginning of 2026 onward, these agreements are negotiated by UK‑based ICE (International Copyright Enterprise Services Ltd). The ICE Core is the market-leading representation for multi-territory online licensing, serving more than 300,000 creators and publishers across over 245 territories. Through ICE, the works represented by Teosto are represented together with some of the world’s strongest music markets, including PRS in the United Kingdom, GEMA in Germany and STIM in Sweden.

Royalties collected via ICE cover approximately 200 different digital services, including for example:

  • Music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, Qobuz
  • Social media services such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok
  • Fitness platforms such as Peloton
  • Gaming integration platforms such as STYNGR
  • Community-centred music platforms such as Audius and Mixcloud

Teosto negotiates agreements and collects royalties itself from international subscription video services as well as from domestic web services. These include for example:

  • AV streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Google, HBO Max, AppleTV+, Viaplay, SF Anytime, Rakuten, HayU, Britbox, Viddla
  • Finnish media companies’ services such as Yle Areena, Elävä arkisto, Ruutu and Ruutu+, Katsomo+, MTV Katsomo, Elisa Viihde, Telia TV and Viihdeväylä
  • Radio services such as Radioplayer, Supla, Radioplay, musa24.fi
  • Background music services such as MoodMedia, Muvika, Audience First, Sentina, Toneco, Feelment, Pelika, Streamec, Kardemummo, Soiva

Our reciprocal representation agreements with copyright organisations in more than one hundred countries also cover those services with which other organisations have concluded direct agreements in their own territories.

This list of online services is not exhaustive, as certain agreements are confidential.
